Here's my third image for the Andrew Bannecker style project!

Andrew Bannecker Style!

We've just begun working in the style of Andrew Bannecker, I absolutely adore his work so I'm really really enjoying this project. I'm much more comfortable with Illustrator now I've had lots of practice, and I've already completed two pieces I'm really happy with. We're still in the theme of produce, but now focusing on fish and sealife creatures!

Here are my two completed images I've made so far :)

Today I felt like using a completely different techinque! I've been using the pen tool in Illustrator
instead of the usual brush tool in photoshop. I think I do prefer this tool, the lines are crisper and the image in itself is more accurate. Anyway, I found this picture of a peeled banana and traced it using the pen tool.
After this, I filled the shape in with yellow to create a bold, simple shape that I thought looked very effective.

I then created these two images, the left image I added a little more colour to define and add detail to the image, and used a coloured background, much like a Julian Opie piece. On the right I worked more in the style of Michael Craig Martin, as it's bolder, but using darker colours. I really like how they have turned out!

Art Work created by me - In the style of Julian Opie

I really like the work of Julian Opie and have decided to use his style to creat my own art work. Also, instead of using just fruit, I wanted to make it a lot more interesting by including people eating fruit. I think it gives it so much more character, rather than just a simple drawing of an apple.

To create the images, I saved images from google I liked, opened them in photoshop, created a new layer and then traced the images using the brush tool. After the simple outline was done, I used the eyedropper tool on the original images to get the correct colours, and then used the paintbucket tool to fill the image with colour. I used the brush tool again to create a small amount of detail to add a little life to my art work.
I really enjoy working in this style and plan to do a few more, but instead of using images found on google, I'll take some of my own photographs and use those instead; to add a personal feel.

Using the pen tool in Photoshop

First of all I went to google to find a produce related image

I then used the pen tool to create a vector drawing. I traced the outline of the image and made sure all the lines were connected so it would be easy to use the paint bucket tool to fill in the shape.

Then, using the paint bucket tool I coloured the strawberry in red, I used various layers and used the pen tool again to trace the leaves, I coloured them all in different shades, but still stuck to a simple design.
Here is my final image! I added text to make the image slightly less plain and more interesting. After looking at Julian Opie's work, I decided I loved the look of bold colours and little detail, so this is the style I was ging for. I'm really pleased with my final piece.

Researching Andy Warhol

'Marilyn Monroe - 1962'
I have always loved the work of Andy Warhol, the boldness and colour attracts me to all of his pieces of art work.

Andy is an American painter, print maker, and filmmaker from Pennsylvania. He was a leading figure in the visual art movement of known as pop art.

Scanning Images to make backgrounds

Here I have scanned in various plants/berries/string, I also used crumpled paper for a textured background. I edited the image on Photoshop to make the contrast and brightness higher. I think it would work really well as a background.
Here I used various images such as gift wrap, a leaf, paper. and a torn receipt. I love how abstract this is and also think it would work well as a background. I like the placement of the objects and the texture of the gift wrap looks really effective.
Here I scanned in yet more images, I filled the entire scanner with various things to make a busy, colourful background, I darkened it on Photoshop to give it an old feel.

Working in the style of Julian Opie

A piece of Julian Opie's art work, he uses block colour and thick black outlines.
Today I have been working in the style of Julian Opie. I found a picture of various fruits from Google, added it to photoshop and began to draw thick lines using the paintbrush around the outlines of the fruit. After this, I made a new layer and began to fill the fruit in with block colour so it began to be in the style of Julian Opie.

This is the final result! I made the image look as simple as possible and I think it looks really effective.

I love this quote from Picasso, mainly because I can relate to it a lot. It reminds me of how if things seem to be going wrong, a little bit of art can make you forget it all completely and let your imagination and thoughts flow out of you and onto a new sheet of paper.
